Texas Nursing CE Requirements
Total Hours Required: 20
Elective Hours: 18
Renewal Cycle in Years: 2
All RNs in the State of Texas who wish to maintain an active license are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education for license renewal.
For initial licensure, RNs must complete:
- 2 contact hours related to forensic evidence collection for any RN practicing in an emergency room setting
For license renewal, RNs must complete:
- 2 contact hours related to older adults and geriatric populations for RNs working with this population
- 2 contact hours of continuing education relating to nursing jurisprudence and nursing ethics before the end of every third two-year licensing period
- 2 contact hours related to human trafficking prevention. Nurse.com cannot be used to fill this requirement
