Illinois Nursing CE Requirements

Total Hours Required: 20

Elective Hours: 16

Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

All RN licenses expire May 31st every two years.

All RNs in the State of Illinois who wish to maintain an active license are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education for license renewal.

For license renewal, RNs must complete:

  • 1 hour of sexual harassment
  • 1 hour of implicit bias
  • 1 hour of cultural competency
  • 1 hour of diagnosis, treatment and care of Alzheimer's disease, along with other dementia types
  • Three hours of the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with cognitive impairments, including, but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias at initial licensure ONLY

Please Note: This course package does not include the one-time three hour requirement of caring for people with cognitive impairements (Alzheimer's/dementia) for practitioners working with adult populations. Please refer to your board for more information.
