Florida Nursing CE Requirements

Total Hours Required: 26

Renewal Cycle in Years: 2

All RNs in the State of Florida who wish to maintain an active license are required to complete 26 hours of continuing education for license renewal.

For license renewal, RNs must complete:

  • 2 hours of medical errors
  • 2 hours in Florida laws and rules
  • 2 hours of recognizing impairment in the workplace
  • 2 hours of human trafficking training
In addition to these 24 hours of general CE, each RN must complete 2 hours of domestic violence CE every third renewal for a total of 26 hours.

Florida Board of Nursing Rules state courses cannot be offered in tenth-hour increments over one hour (example: 1.6 contact hours). Course contact hours will be rounded down to the nearest half-hour (example 1.6 contact hours becomes 1.5 contact hours).

The Florida Board of Nursing will not accept courses approved for less than 1.0 contact hour.

For initial licensure, RNs must complete:
  • 2 hours of medical errors
  • 2 hours in Florida laws and rules
  • 2 hours of recognizing impairment in the workplace
  • 2 hours of domestic violence training
  • 2 hours of human trafficking training
  • 1 hour of HIV/AIDS
